What is DEB ID?
DEB ID (Distance Education Bureau ID) is a mandatory unique identification number issued by University Grants Commission for students who want to take admission in ODL / Online programmes.
If you are applying for admission in IGNOU, DEB ID is compulsory.
🔔 Important: Without DEB ID, your IGNOU admission form will not be submitted.

Things Required Before Creating DEB ID
Before starting, keep the following ready:
- ✔ ABC ID (Academic Bank of Credits)
- ✔ Mobile number (linked with Aadhaar)
- ✔ Email ID (personal and active)
- ✔ Internet & smartphone/PC
Step 1: Create ABC ID (If Not Created)
DEB ID cannot be created without ABC ID.
How to create ABC ID:
- Visit 👉 https://www.abc.gov.in
- Login using DigiLocker
- Verify Aadhaar via OTP
- ABC ID will be generated automatically
📌 Note: Create ABC ID only once.
Step 2: Visit DEB ID Creation Portal
Go to the official DEB portal:

You will see the “Create DEB ID” section.
Step 3: Enter Your ABC ID
- Enter your ABC ID
- Click on Submit
- Your basic details will be fetched automatically
✔ Name
✔ Date of Birth
✔ Academic details
Step 4: Verify Mobile Number & Email
- Enter your own mobile number & email ID
- OTP will be sent to both
- Verify successfully
⚠ Use the SAME mobile & email while filling IGNOU admission form
Step 5: DEB ID Generated Successfully 🎉
After verification:
- Your DEB ID will be generated
- Download / note it carefully

Where is DEB ID Used?
You must enter DEB ID while:
- Filling IGNOU Online Admission Form
- Applying for ODL / Online Programmes
- Academic verification
Without DEB ID → ❌ Admission rejected
